Water Department

The City of Dodgeville Water Department is responsible for maintaining approximately 40 miles of water mains, 2000 service laterals, and 335 fire hydrants. Meter readings are collected by an electronic radio reading system. The Utility has five wells that have a average depth of 800 feet and a combined pumping capacity 2000 gallons a minute. The Water Utility maintains one elevated tank (water tower) that has a capacity of 500,000 gallons. The water source is ground water from deep sandstone aquifers. The average daily pumping for the City is 500,000 gallons. The Water Utility is a self supporting enterprise; 100% of the expenses are paid by the Utility customers monthly bills.
