Wastewater Department

The City of Dodgeville operates and maintains a modern activated sludge waste treatment facility consisting of primary and secondary treatment. The plant treats, an average of 450,000 gallons of wastewater each day. Initial screening of the influent flow removes larger debris, which is sent to an approved landfill. The remaining soluble and suspended waste is treated biologically and chemically through a series of processes that include Biological Phosphorous Removal, Extended Aeration and Final Clarification. All waste products are stored in liquid form in a 1.2 million gallon storage tank. In the spring and fall this liquid sludge is hauled to local farm fields and applied to the land for its nutrient value.

The wastewater is delivered to the plant through a collection system consisting of 25 miles of sewer mains and seven lift stations. This system is cleaned on a yearly basis with high pressure jetting equipment.

The Sewer Department is a self supporting enterprise; 100% of the expenses are paid by the Utility customers monthly bills.

The City of Dodgeville Wastewater Treatment Plant is located at 901 East Spring Street, Dodgeville, WI 53533.

Questions or concerns can be directed to the Sewer Department Foreman at (608)935-5633.

Normal operating hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
